Man Seriously Injured in Self-Immolation Near Olympic Stadium

Phnom Penh: A 40-year-old man suffered severe injuries after setting himself on fire near Olympic Stadium (Tower Three) in Veal Vong Subdistrict, Makara District, on the morning of February 2, 2025.

The Phnom Penh Police Department's Information and Rapid Response Team reported that the victim, identified as Keo Sokpov, was transported by ambulance to Calmette Hospital at 7:20 a.m. for emergency treatment.

According to witnesses, a resident exercising in the area discovered the man on fire and called for help. Local residents rushed to assist before alerting authorities, who dispatched an ambulance to the scene.

The victim's sister, Keo Srey Toch, 46, told police that her brother had a history of mental illness and drug use. She stated that he had been missing from home for two days prior to the incident.

Doctors at Calmette Hospital revealed that Keo Sokpov had previously attempted self-immolation near the Independence Monument.
